Portion Control


If you know me or follow me on any of my social media outlets, you know that I definitely get a good work out in, but more than anything I enjoy a good meal. Whether it's one of the native dishes from Dominican Republic made by my mom or New York pizza, I enjoy trying new foods. But I'm often asked in the same breath, how do I maintain my size when I'm always eating... The answer is pretty simple. PORTION CONTROL.

Yep, that's it. Portion control. Like I said, I'm always in the gym and working on my body, but the gym just won't do it. If you ask any trainer, Nutritionist or any person that knows anything about health and fitness, 9 times out of 10 they're going to tell you that to obtain a great, healthy body you need to live by the 80/20 rule... Eat clean 80% of the time, and indulge a little 20% of the time... Or they may even tell you its 80% what you eat and 20% exercise. Either way, the major thing is eating clean and healthy. Portion Control is a way to enjoy what you want, when you want,  but you also have to have a measure of self-control. Though you may see me ordering crazy amounts of food and trying a little bit of everything, what you don't always see, is that I'm not eating ALL of it. I often times split dishes with a friend or friendS which means I'm not eating EVERYTHING and ALL OF IT or consuming all of the CALORIES and CARBS. 

Next time you're out, definitely order what you want, but eat it in moderation. Consider splitting an entrée with a friend or even trying that desert that you want, but ask for the rest in a to go and give it a way. Try this for a month and watch a subtle difference. It may be the difference between slipping into that pair of jeans you've been wanting to get in, or squeezing them on and STILL not being able to fit them...
